Carl Sagan - Pale Blue Dot (by CarlSaganPortal)
Carl Sagan. I grew up watching and reading him. My father’s co-worker gave me the book Cosmos for my high school graduation. That was 1982 (lord, did I just write that out loud??). I still have it. It’s still relevant.
But what I really want to say is that I don’t think I ever heard this man speak in anything other than poetry. And I don’t think he purposed it that way. I just think that…where some “practice” poetry, HE WAS a poet. More: HE WAS…poetry. Or, try this one on: Poetry was he.
It moves me emotionally just to think about the difference.
I have a sort of mental list of people who should never have died… People who should have been allowed to live on in this world eternally, simply because of the value and values they imbued. Simply because of the ART of who they were. People such as Mr. Rogers and Charles Schultz, for instance. Carl Sagan is definitely on the list.
